All those photos I took at Pinehurst today? Gone. Completely gone. Nothing left. Why? Because I dropped my phone in a toilet and it won’t turn back on. I have it in rice now. Still won’t turn on.

what kind of phone do you have?

Your first mistake was to try and turn it back on... Probably dead for good now. Also, if you have an SD card slot, always save your phone picture onto it. :)

This phone or next, get a Lifeproof case. Worth the money, protects the phone. Mine will even recharge the phone.

Try in the morning. It needs time.

They don’t make them for the Moto X.

You put your phone in a Honda Covoc GTR SI Type R?
Weird choice man.
Hang in there, rice works really well.

Shitty. Or maybe not.
Let it sit for a few days.

Once long ago (15 + years YES before anyone had a damn cell phone) I dropped a pager in the toilet. I didn’t even give it a second thought I just flushed. Heard it rattle all the way down 2 stories of pipes. Luckily pagers ran about 50 bucks not 500-1k like phones. Hope you had good insurance. If you used an sd card it will be fine pull it out and try it in anything else it should still work. Have sent a few through the wash and they still come right up. Hopefully your photos will be on it.

You’re supposed to just leave it alone and not try to turn it on for like two days, leaving it in the rice. I did with my iPhone 4 when it went swimming in my backyard pond, it came back to life and lasted another six months or so, then it bricked for good. I have test-driven a couple of E-types and an incredibly gracious woman my wife had just met let me just take her unrestored Series 1 out by my lonesome, I did only about 10 miles or so but in the first few blocks a man pointed it out to his son, telling him what it was. They ride surprisingly well given when they were designed, but the level of grip on stock tires is probably comically low compared to even a regular old Miata. But the whole time you’re just thinking, “I’m driving a E-type!” so you don’t really care. It’s amazing how tiny they are in person and next to modern cars. The F-Type looks like a boat compared to an E.

I know that feel. Mine went for a swim with me in a lake last week. Ended up having to get a new one. Sad thing is it was set to charge only through USB at the time so I can’t get anything off it now. Ugh.

You dunked it today? You need way more time in the rice for that to work. Like three days. For real; have tried it.

Any poo or pee in there?

Aight, thanks for the advice. If I can’t recover my photos, I’ll just force Justin Westbrook to let me use his.

Yeah thanks, I sent a few to a friend, and I put a few on Twitter, so there’s some floating around

What really sucks is that I lost all my Pinehurst photos. I took so many. Oh, and were you on 401 in Fuquay last Tuesday at around 4:00 PM in the van? I think I saw you...

I’m not really an iPhone guy, so I’ll probably be getting another Moto.

But my phone was in there for five seconds tops.

Sounds like you need an iPhone 4. I dropped mine in the sink at least 4 times. And in a pool more than once. Always worked. Still works. Even though there’s no back.

To be honest with all the miles I do I really don’t recall where I was at any given time. Honestly didn’t even remember that you were local. Have you ever checked out East Coast Classic Cars in Lillington? Think I’m going to try to check it out soon. Pass it once in a while but never stop. Not sure if they are friendly to folks who only intend look.

I have the Moto x pure. Fan so far, some quirks but I never had anything from Motorola before.

Ah yeah that sucks. I think mine was submerged for about a minute. It will turn on but you can’t do anything on the screen.

I’ve been there dozens of times. They’re great guys, and as most of the people come in just to look, they’re fine with it.

I quit my job, so I have no money, and I’m trying to do everything as cheaply as possible.

Okay, two things you can do here:
Leave it in the rice (occasionally changing the rice) for a day or two.
Then put the phone under dry heat (heat lamp, dashboard of your car on a hot day, etc) for several hours.
Then try booting into Recovery, then try to start the phone from the Recovery menu.
If nothing works, you could always send it to me and I’ll try working my magic on it. I’ve so far brought 2 iPod Touches, 4 iphones (two were iPhone 5), and a Galaxy S III back from watery graves. :)

I have been wondering if I should have gotten a Moto X 2nd Gen or E instead. I am surprised more people don’t get Motorolas based on price.

They’re pretty good. I’m typing on my backup Moto E right now.

The actual phone works, because I was Twitter DMing last night, and it was vibrating. It’s the screen that doesn't.
